Hen Harrier

Published: 24th January 2015

Driving along the road from Glenloy Lodge to Banavie yesterday we spotted a ring-tailed hen harrier quartering a field below the forestry. It came up quite close to the road and gave good views. This is quite an unusual sighting, we perhaps see one or two harriers a winter in our local patch. It was also appropriate as we were on our way to a Wild Lochaber meeting – our local body set up to promote the wonderful wildlife of the area. It was dark by the time we drove home, and close to where we saw the harrier a barn owl was sat on a fence post – not bad for a dreich day!
